Hi Beth, welcome to A Sustainable Closet! Can you tell us more about you and your YouTube channel, what is the purpose behind your work?

“ALWAY PLAY DRESS UP” is the heartbeat of my channel! Here you will be inspired to create magic in the every day, wake up.. decide what character you're going to be that day.. get dressed and take in the world!!! My channel features THRIFT SHOPPING, COME THRIFT WITH ME, VINTAGE TOURS, THRIFT HAULS, OOTD AND OOTW VIDEOS. I also do HAIR TUTORIALS, MAKEUP TUTORIALS and share TRAVEL VLOGS and also behind-the-scenes work as a FASHION STYLIST. I've been a fashion blogger and stylist since 2007 and live in southern California.

You often refer to "always dressed up" or "play dressed up", can you explain more about the meaning behind it?

It's the idea of embracing your inner free spirit - going back to the idea of being a child with a dress-up closet - just playing, having fun, and not worrying about anything but dressing up your dreams.

When did you become interested in fashion and clothing?

I've been "playing dress up" since I was really little. It started with a collection of vintage clothing that I found at rummage sales with my mom and then it continued to grow over the years. Also, when I moved to California from South Carolina in 2003 - I met amazing creative people, started thrifting a lot and really started to explore my style on a whole new level.

How would you describe your style and was there any moment you "found" it?

I think my style is creative, character-driven, over-the-top, a little glamorous and whimsical. I love to switch it up all the time - having a menswear moment one day and then throwing on tiers and ruffles another day. I think the core of my style is the same as it was as a little girl, but I've gained a lot more knowledge over the years and really developed my styling brain.

How would you describe your closet?

It's pretty small, so I have it really organized. I like to organize by style category. Like 70's blouses, bohemian tops, plaid button-downs, etc. It's a story in my closet at all times. And LOTS of accessories everywhere you look.

What is a sustainable closet for you?

I shop mostly second-hand but also mix in new pieces that I thoughtfully select as investment pieces. I like the pieces to be really versatile and something that can be styled with a lot of other things in my closet.

What are your best tips for anyone who seeks to be more creative and have fun with their style?

I think a great place to start is by collecting inspiration, if that is through creating mood boards on Pinterest, cutting out magazines, digging through vintage to find pieces that you love and inspiring ideas. From there you will see a pattern of what you love and then you can start exploring those ideas with your personal style.
