A Swedish up-cycling company’s perspective on the lack of sales

“More people are contacting us, asking if they can help”

Some people might find it good that consumption goes down so Mother Earth can breathe for a while! It has been shown before that economic regression or decrease in economic activities has a good effect on the climate - in the short run. What one might not think about is that there are several second hand shops and brands who are fundraising social activities. Activities that are needed now more than ever to help the most vulnerable people. I asked the Swedish brand Remake how they are effected and this is their perspective.

In what ways are your brand effected by the Coronavirus-crisis? 

At Remake Stockholms Stadsmission we are clearly noticing this crisis, just like everyone else. There’s less costumers out shopping and we are noticing it at the Remake store but also among the stores selling our brand. Stockholms Stadsmission also has a higher pressure on our social activities, more people need help, but more people are also contacting us, asking if they can help. We are now mobilising to be able to continue with our social activities and help the participants.

What are your highest priorities and strategies at the moment?

Remake is prioritising to continue with our plan to open a Remake shop at Stadsmissionens Second Hand shop at Hornsgatan in Stockholm. We had our grand opening Thursday the 26th of March. Even though it’s a difficult time from a sales perspective, we are now able to catch up with projects we didn’t have time to focus on before. Hopefully, the sales will increase soon again and then we’re ready for the future. We are also planning to open our own e-commerce! 

What can one do that loves your brand and feel like they want to support?

All of you who lives in Stockholm, and don’t have any symptoms at all (!), are very welcome to visit our beautiful stores, Stadsmissionens Second Hand at Hornsgatan and our smaller shop at Skånegatan in Stockholm. There you can find Remake classics and items from the spring-collection. Now is the time to do your second hand shopping, less customers and many beautiful items.
