Changing behavior is one of the steps forward when striving towards more conscious consumption, in order to make the changes necessary we sometimes need a so-called reality check mixed with some inspiration.

I’ve noticed that sustainable fashion during the latest years has become statements and ways for people to express their view of life and society, and not only through outfits also through their ways of being creative. I love creativity and different ways of seeing the world, I think that’s why I’ve always been so fascinated by arts and craft. Arts and craft is a world I believe fashion always has been inspired by and also a world with people questioning today’s systems and behaviors. So, you can imagine my excitement when I starting to see artists creating to questioning the industry of fast fashion.

Artists all over the world are more of less influencers shaping our society, through fashion, music, arts, books, etc. Today I would like to share with you three artists, using their creativity and taking a stand against fast fashion.

Rååw is an art project creating new systems for reducing food waste through plant dyeing of textiles. Emma and Sanna, the women behind the project have a background in fashion and textile and together they created Rååw, a way to raise awareness about how waste can serve as a resource when circularity are integrated into the design process. This project resulted in a number of unique garments put on exhibitions all around Sweden.

Christine Johanson is a photographer and collage creator. She is one of the women behind The Judicious Collection, a poster collection shedding light on global questions. One of the areas Christine was interpreted in the collection was overconsumption. The poster was named “lifestyle: out of stock” and was playing on the fact that if we’ll keep on consuming fashion the way we do our planet cannot handle it anymore. We need to create a new lifestyle for a more sustainable future.

Cheap Clothes Lying On The Floor ( https://www.instagram.com/cheapclotheslyingonthefloor/

Cheap Clothes Lying On The Floor is an art project looking at fast fashion by Artist Mattias Käll. On the Instagram page for the project Mattias puts out photos of just that, cheap clothes in different stores just lying on the floor. The clothes all look lonely and abandoned, and, to me at least, it gives some reflections on how we actually value and care for our clothes.

How do you feel about art questioning fast fashion and do you have any inspiring artists or project to share with us? Please share in the comments.
