Fashion show and climate change - hand in hand
Two weeks ago I travelled by train to northern parts of Sweden. A 7 hour journey took me all the way to Umeå. I participated at Slow Fashion Explosion by the local Red Cross Second Hand. I was really impressed both by their fashion show and by their Breakfast event for influencer together with Klimatklubben (Climate Club). The styling, the drinks and the seminars at the fashion show was very entertaining but with a sense of seriousness with a clear message - you’re really saving the world by donating and consuming second hand at the Red Cross instead of buying new clothes.
The breakfast event was also very cozy, stylish and professional. Local influencers were invited to eat sustainable breakfast, listen to seminars about the fashion industry from a sustainability lens and in the end they could do some shopping. The influencers have between 4000 - 70 000 followers, and if they choose to share their insights, then plenty of more people can learn too.
I really believe in events/seminars where you combine what is fun with how to make a difference. Here are my trips on what you can do:
Fashion show - okey, you need a place, models, some music and clothes, but who said this can’t be done at home with your family?
Cloth exchanging event - this one is awesome and so simple, just invite people and let them bring the clothes they’re not using.
Breakfast or after work with the theme climate and clothes - let someone search for the facts and then you have open questions about creative solutions to solve the issues.
Shopping ban celebration - for those who do shopping ban - let’s have a party and exchange things with each other.
Social media group of your best outfit. Inspiring each other and publish your outfit and how you’ve dressed without buying fast fashion.
Sketching and tailoring - who haven’t dreamed of being a designer? Design your own dress and ask a tailor to do it for you. Pick some friends for the challenge.
Vision board of your closet. Gather some friends and create visions boards of your perfect closet. Now you can help each other every time anyone of you are visiting a second hand shop.
Wedding a la 100% remade - challenge all your guest for you wedding - no one is allowed to buy anything new for the celebration.
Be creative, have fun and keep on inspiring more people to make conscious choices.
