Autumn Clothing Review: Dresses & Pants

Autumn has officially arrived in the Northern Hemisphere, and people are beginning to swap their summer wardrobes for winter clothing. Jackets, jeans, and knitted sweaters are being retrieved from storage—whether that’s the basement or wherever you keep your cold-weather gear. Some items may no longer fit, some may need repairs, and others have been in your wardrobe for years yet remain unworn. Seasonal transitions offer an excellent opportunity to review your clothing, ensuring that your wardrobe is both practical and versatile for everyday wear.

Key items for autumn include hats, scarves, coats, sweaters, and warm trousers. However, layering can extend the use of your summer clothes, and good-quality underwear is essential for continuing to wear cotton trousers as temperatures near zero degrees Celsius. In some cases, an upgrade might be necessary, and we’re here to help you make the best ethical choices.

We’ve tested some of the stylish pieces from this season's collection by Swedish brand Dedicated. We hope this guide will give you valuable insight into what to expect when purchasing new items. Our experience shows that it’s not enough for brands to take responsibility; the clothing must also meet the consumer’s needs and stand the test of time.

Dress

Available in black and orange, this dress is made from 95% organic cotton and produced in a GOTS and Fairtrade-certified factory. The first thing you’ll notice is its comfort. With a bit of stretch, it allows for easy movement, and even the length of the dress won’t hinder you from taking full strides and going about your day. Subtle details at the neckline, wrists, and hem give the dress a classic look, even if you opt for a looser fit by choosing a size up. The design doesn’t demand a perfect fit, so you can feel comfortable while still looking stylish.

This highly versatile dress can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Keeping versatility and longevity in mind is always beneficial when purchasing new clothes. The only downside we noted is that the sleeves are fitted, and if, like us, you tend to sweat during autumn while wearing your winter coat, the dress may require more frequent washing, particularly in the underarm area. Be sure to wash it at 30 degrees and choose your time of use carefully.

PANTS

These trousers are made in a GOTS-certified factory in India from 100% organic cotton. The design features a high waist, wide legs, and practical pockets. The first impression when wearing them is the comfort they provide, especially if you like high-waisted styles. They offer plenty of movement and breathability around the hips and waist, making them ideal for both desk work and getting practical tasks done at home. The thick cotton fabric gives the trousers a structured drape, and they stay crisp and straight even after a long day's wear.

They can easily be dressed up with a top, jewellery, or even heels, or dressed down with a simple linen shirt or casual piece. A versatile and practical addition to your everyday wardrobe. They're also easy to care for—just wash at 30 degrees to prevent shrinkage, and no need for heavy ironing!

The only thing to note is that the cotton fabric can attract fibres from other textiles, so avoid pairing them with overly knitted tops or hanging them near white garments made of delicate materials.
