Tell us about yourself?

Okay where should I start…my name is Mabinty, I’m 29 years old, I work in Social Media and have an Undergraduate Degree in Psychology, oh yes, and I am passionate about 3 things in life; fashion, music, and psychology. I love deep conversations about life and its purpose, and would actually like to do my Masters in Neuroscience (Psychology) just for fun, work as a Stylist and live in Paris.

What’s your relationship with clothes?

It’s a love story. Has always been and will always be. Ever since I was a kid/teenager, I've enjoyed spending all my money on clothes. I feel like the question of who you are and who you're trying to be can be answered through clothes. Hence, I would say my relationship is more on the emotional side than on the practical.

How would you describe your style?

My Style…hmm. I would say it is firstly based on comfort and elevated cool pieces. I think the way people describe Parisians and their style is what I'm always going for “effortlessly chic / stylish" — if my style actually comes across like that, I don't know :D. Oh, and I wear a lot of oversized clothing.

Any favorite items?

My all-time favorite pieces might be my “James Dean” vintage leather jacket, a blue silk top from my mom, actually everything I have from my mom. Otherwise, It changes. At the moment, it's a pair of dark blue Levis denim trousers and a checked coat I thrifted for fall.

How would you describe your closet?

It's a treasure box. You'll find a lot of thrifted pieces that you would not believe are thrifted. It's also very interesting because it's a little minimal and a mixture of Scandi vibes meets vintage, a little tomboyish, a little colorful and a little Olsen-twins.

Where do you find inspiration?

On Pinterest, on Social Media and definitely in real life (street style) - I've started watching street style videos “what people are wearing“ on YouTube during the Pandemic and I love it.

Do you have a style icon, if yes, who?

Not really but I adore the style of a few people: Sami Miro, Karla Deras Chambers and Camille Charriere

What is a sustainable closet for you?

One that is filled with things you LOVE! I mean really, really love, even your basics. One that serves YOU, that is customized to you and your body type, and one where the clothes are of materials that are good quality, as natural as possible.

What do you think about the fashion industry in general?

I think it´s a trap that especially when you're young, you can easily fall into. But If one focuses early enough on finding ones personal style, I think that’s the best way to escape it all.

What can one do that seeks to create a more sustainable closet?

Be very, very, veeery selective with what you add to your closet. Try and see it as a collection you’re building for life. In that way you'll search longer until you find what you really want, really need and you´ll be proud of your collection slowly growing. The emphasis is on „slowly“ - because less is more.
