What is Murlong Cres?

Murlong Cres is a small sustainable clothing brand. Every garment is carefully designed and made in Norway. We aim to use natural and organic fabrics. We design our fabrics in-house and work with a printing company that is committed to the well being of our planet and ensures fabrics and inks have minimal ecological impact.

How did you come up with the idea of starting your own brand?

I have always wanted to start my own brand. When I was in university, our final project was to create our own business. That's when I started working on what eventually became Murlong Cres.

When did you launch?

I launched 8th of July 2020 - so we have been in business for almost a year now!

Which piece from the current collection is your favourite?

Right now, my favorite has to be the Josefine midi dress.

How long does it take to make the Josefine midi dress?

From cutting out the fabric and sewing everything together it takes me about three hours to finish one Josefine midi dress.

Where are your customers based?

I do have customers from all over the world, but most of my customers are based here in Norway.

What has been the biggest gain so far

I have a very exciting project coming up soon, but I can't really talk about it yet. Besides that, I would say that getting a few more people involved in the business has been great. I still do most of the work myself, but I'm now working closely with a professional pattern maker and it has made the process of making a new design so much easier. I'm self taught so I'm happy to get help where I'm lacking.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I find a lot of inspiration on Pinterest, Instagram and from clothes I see in stores and clothes I already have.

I would say that you don’t have to purchase a whole new wardrobe at once just because you want a sustainable closet. Take your time and start researching sustainable brands.

Where do you source your fabrics from?

I source fabrics from so many different places - it really depends on what I'm after. My printing company also does a lot of sourcing for me.

What importance has sustainability for Murlong Cres?

Murlong Cres’ commitment to the environment runs deep - from the fabrics we choose to what we do with our scraps. At every stage and in every way we can, we try to minimise our ecological impact on the planet.

What is your relationship to fashion, in terms of consumption?

I don't really purchase a lot of clothes anymore as I can make pretty much everything  myself, but if I do purchase something it's usually from a small brand with the same ethics in terms of the environment as me.

What is your advice to people out there who seek to create a sustainable closet?

I would say that you don't have to purchase a whole new wardrobe at once just because you want a sustainable closet. Take your time and start researching sustainable brands.
