What is the B Corp Month?

March is coming to its end, but before that we want to remind you that this month also marks B Corp month. Now some of you might think, what is B Corp?

A B Corp certification proves that a company is truly contributing to society. To explain it more in detail, profit is no longer the only way to measure a company's success. Many modern business owners strive to pay as much attention to minimising their environmental impact and contributing to society at large as they historically did to keeping shareholders happy.

Some companies have gone a step further and allowed themselves to be B Corp certified. This means that they are evaluated every 3 years by the independent non-profit organisation B Lab, which ensures that the company meets.

  • the highest requirements for social responsibility and environmental consideration

  • that they are transparent with what they do

  • and that they are both well-managed and behave well in society

The requirements are high and are constantly being raised. Therefore, not everyone who applies to be a B Corps gets certified. Among the companies that are certified are Patagonia, Ben & Jerry's and The Body Shop. All types of companies can become certified, regardless of industry and size. The important thing is that, among other things, they show that they are working for a more inclusive and more sustainable society with lower inequality, fewer people in poverty and where the jobs they offer are meaningful and with decent wages.

In the last two years, the number of B Corp companies in the world has increased by 38 percent. The certification is relatively well known in, for example, Great Britain and the United States, where thousands of companies have joined the movement.

Among our collaborators and partners of A Sustainable Closet, the Swedish A Good Company and German Wildling Shoes are our B Corp. brands but we truly wish to present a longer list in the near future.
