The Crocheting Craze - Here to Stay

Crocheting, a handcraft highly connected to grandmas or the colourful ’70s, but guess what, crocheting is back, it’s cool again, and it’s for everyone! We love it!

Crocheting had its heydays back in the 60’s and 70’s when funky and colourful granny squares (a type of crocheting technique) were literally blooming on the street fashion scene. But with the internet taking over and beginner tutorials being all over the place, crocheting has made its comeback with not only grandmas acing the skill but people of all ages making crafts looking professionally made. Bucket hats, bikinis, cute handbags, dresses, summer tops, top-to-toe sets, baby clothes, kids’ toys, home decorations, you can basically crochet everything and we promise you, it’s not that hard to learn.

Another interesting fact about crocheting and why it shouldn’t just be a short trend but a long-term habit is that it has been shown to improve memory function and can be used to help with dementia and memory loss issues. Crocheting helps the brain to focus on the task and stimulates activity as it learns a new skill. Crocheting also has soothing and meditative benefits that help calm depression and anxiety. Giving the brain a challenge of crochet helps its ability to operate even if it’s damaged, meaning crochet really is quite incredible!
