Queen Margrethe & Her Great Style
he was not only Denmark's queen for 52 years – she is also the country's uncrowned style icon. When Queen Margrethe announced in her annual New Year's speech that on 14 January 2024, she would hand over the throne to her eldest son, Crown Prince Frederik, there was a big sigh throughout the entire country. Time stood still and tears were cried…
Having reigned for exactly 52 years, she was the second-longest reigning monarch and longest-reigning female monarch in Danish history after Christian IV.
Unlike many other royals, the regent is her stylist and over the years has designed several of her dresses herself. She does not allow herself to be dictated by the rapidly changing trends of fashion but is instead true to her style, and that is probably the secret behind her stylish expression: That she knows what suits her, and what any situation calls for. She is brave and extremely accomplished. From classic cuts and men's-inspired elements to eye-catching floral motifs, strong colours and wild headpieces, our queen knows how to play with her wardrobe and create a very personal expression with her attire.
To honour her time on the Danish throne, we want to share some of her top outfits throughout the years. And, last but not least we would like to thank Margrethe for her courage in being herself and believing 100% in her style. That’s the way!
