Our Founder’s Christmas Wishlist: Sustainable and Thoughtful Joy
As the founder of A Sustainable Closet, I value intentionality, sustainability, and meaningful connections in every aspect of life—including gift-giving. My Christmas wishlist reflects my values and passion for a mindful wardrobe and lifestyle. Here’s a glimpse into what’s on my list this year:
1. A Sewing Machine (and a Course to Match!)
This has been a long-time dream! A sewing machine would allow me to mend my clothes and upcycle secondhand finds. Pairing it with a sewing course would help me bring creative visions to life while reducing waste.
2. Office Clothes from Residus
Residus is one of my favourite ethical brands. Their comfortable essentials are perfect for mixing with secondhand items. A cosy gray outfit for winter board meetings is at the top of my wishlist.
3. Basics from Dedicated
Dedicated’s organic and fair-trade cotton basics are must-haves. My current T-shirts have seen better days, but they won’t go to waste—I’ll repurpose them for cleaning windows. Fresh colours like red, charcoal, and purple T-shirts and socks would add a very much-needed refresh to my wardrobe.
4. The Perfect Denim
Finding eco-friendly denim is no small feat. After years of searching and living with inherited jeans, I’ve realised the importance of investing in well-fitting, high-quality denim. Kuyichi is my go-to for sustainable jeans that promise longevity.
5. A Steamer
Ironing can be a hassle, and several pieces in my closet go unworn because of it. A steamer seems like the ideal solution to breathe new life into my wardrobe with ease. Recommendations are welcome!
6. Fairtrade and Ethical Jewelry
I cherish quality jewelry made with care and sustainability in mind. A pair of ethical gold earrings or a new chain for my golden charms would be treasured additions. Brands like the Ukrainian Gunia inspire me with their artistry.
7. Vegan and Organic Makeup
Exploring ethical beauty has been a delightful journey, but I’m still searching for the perfect mascara, cream-based eyeshadows, and red-brown lipstick. I’ve enjoyed products from Lavera, Madara, and Benecos, but I’d love to expand this list with more discoveries. Products above from the site Jordklok.se.
8. Gloves for Winter
A decade without proper gloves has left my hands freezing! Finding vegan, plastic-free options has been challenging, but I remain hopeful. If you know of a sustainable solution, let me know!
9. Books to Inspire
Books feed my mind and soul. My wishlist includes Material World by Ed Conway, Andreas Cervenka’s latest, and I Am That by Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj. I’m also drawn to titles exploring our economic systems, Middle Eastern history, and spirituality.
Thoughtful Giving, Conscious Living
In my family, gifts are a love language. We create thoughtful lists and ensure every gift is meaningful and needed. This approach helps us avoid waste while celebrating the joy of giving. Whether you’re writing your wishlist or selecting gifts for others, remember to choose with care and intention.
Wishing you a joyous, sustainable holiday season!
