Our Founder’s Christmas Wishlist
As the holiday season approaches, for some it might be time to dig into Christmas gifts. In my family, we don’t give that many gifts. I sometimes give one for the sibling that is home, my parents if we’re together and my husband (who is the only one I want to spoil). High on demand are normally charity gifts (donations to organisations) which we give frequently to one another. But I always make a list, for the fun of it (or for my husband) and this is what I would tell Santa this year:
Sustainable Hat
I used to laugh at for wearing hats in high school and since then I always wanted to start wearing them again. I’m looking for a vegan option that suits spring and autumn in the city.
2. A Sewing Machine
At the top of my list is a sewing machine, and it has been on my list for years. After so many years of purchasing second-hand, I want to be able to upcycle and mend garments that I like but are not the perfect fit.
3. Outdoor Jacket for Winter Activities
Despite calling myself an outdoor person, the same problem comes up every winter. My jackets or too warm or to cold (layer on layer does not always work). So I want something in between. Circular or more sustainably produced does not matter, it’s the fit and the right design that will make me take care of it for decades.
4. Ethical Gold Jewellery
Adding a touch of elegance to my wishlist is sustainable gold jewellery. A good jewellery is never wasted. I keep my high-quality items and take proper care of them. Some items I have used for more than 10 years, it’s always the cheap things that goes, but quality stays.
5. Sustainable Yoga Clothes
Being a very active person requires new sportswear. Despite taking proper care, after a few years, they start to smell or lose its shape. It is also very heard to find sustainable choices that have good quality. As my body changes, several of my yoga clothes don’t do me right any more and new ones are needed.
6. Books about Alternative Economics and Inner Sustainability
I read several books at the same time per week. Normally something entertaining (like fantasy), something thoughtful (like philosophy or personal development) and something political or factful. I use Goodreads to keep track of books I want to read. A few of these would not harm!
7. Big Crystal Stones if Ethically Sourced
I love spiritual shops, I love stones, taro cards and incense. Anything from this world will make me happy. But I am aware of its environmental harm and I wish more products were fair trade certified and so on. If anyone ever gets hold of a company working on crystals for circularity or that are traceable sources. That would be a wonderful topic for is to write about!
This is just a collection of items that I love and long for. But I don’t need them. Sometimes it’s the wishing that makes life feel magic and not everything needs to come true. Merry Christmas.
