Innovations transforming the fashion industry

The demand, regardless of industry, changes and will always keep on changing. This is a really good thing because without a change of demand there’d be no need for adjustments or improvements whatsoever. Regarding our planet, it’s highly necessary that the demands and requirements from consumers also change when it comes to fashion.

There are amazing innovations that basically create a better and more sustainable future for fashion, so let’s dig deeper into the subject!

As we all know, fashion has been a big part of our societies for centuries. Throughout the years, we’ve been able to create and develop not only a big variety of looks and styles but also more long lasting clothing. Fortunately, it doesn’t stop there.

Technology - Recycling machines

It’s fascinating how tech innovations are contributing to, and changing, the fashion industry to a more sustainable one. For example, regarding improving the way clothes are being made today. There are also ”recycling machines” where old garment’s that are in too poor quality can be recycled into new fibres. The whole process involves washing your old garments, shredding it into fibers, spinning it into new yarn and knitting it into new garments. The technology is not very developed yet, but pretty cool it's on its way.

E-commerce is growing day by day and it doesn’t seem to go out of style. The less environmentally friendly part of the industry is the amount of returns being shipped back. It’s obviously expensive for the brand since it’s usually free of cost for the consumer, but the bigger red flag is the toll it takes on the environment with the shipping process back and forth.

New 3D technology steps up to try to minimize exactly that, which is truly amazing. ”PhiSix” is one of them, and the service offers the consumer to virtually try on whatever type of clothing before deciding to shop or not. The 3D fit clothing simulation also enables you to build a ”library” with your fit and sizing for future styles and shopping sprees online. Even though a lot of things have been improved within the E-commerce industry the last ten years during its growth (sizing guides etc.), more needs to be done to avoid excessive amounts of returns. This 3D solution is truly a huge step in the right direction!

”WeEmpowerAsia”

The EU teamed up with UN Women to establish the program with the purpose of focusing on increasing female participation in business and leadership. Industry Disruptor is one of their leading projects where Asian female entrepreneurs working in the textile and fashion industry engage together with experts on sustainability challenges. The online training course involves discussions regarding solutions for product lifespan, pollution and the future of supply chains among other urgent environmental challenges we’re facing.

This clearly goes to show that both you, me and AI (Artificial Intelligence) can do wonders in any industry when we truly put our minds to it, both consumer and company.

Sure, you’d have to be technically skilled to be able to develop a 3D innovation, but it all starts with us and our ways of thinking. It starts with us, our mindsets and our awareness which hopefully affects our way of making certain choices.
