How to celebrate a Green Valentines Day

14th of February is a day that many look forward to and others do not. But as there are no signs this world will even stop celebrating Valentine's Day, let’s try to make it more sustainable, in other words - GREEN! Both in terms of environmental and social factors.

To make Valentine's or Galentine’s Day (Galentine’s = the day for women to celebrate their friendships with their lady friends, usually on the 13th of Feb) green, or at least greener, we suggest you cut down on consumption. Well, if you have knowledge of something that your significant other has on her/his wishlist, go for it. What we mean is to cut down on crap/things that will end up in a drawer. Invest your Valentine's budget on something like these options instead:

  1. Plan a nice dinner out, either with friends, family, your partner or alone. Why not? Self-love is just as important!

  2. Watch a romantic movie at the cinema or cosy at home

  3. Cook up a fancy three-course romantic dinner at home

  4. Bake something together

  5. Host a Valentine's Day party

  6. Do some fun Valentine's DIY projects with your family, Keep in mind: Zero waste!

  7. If you are planning to give your loved one some heart-shaped chocolate wrapped in shiny red paper, opt for Fairtrade!

  8. Make a video about all of your favourite memories together

  9. Instead of buying fresh-cut flowers that most likely won’t live more than three days (we know, this one is hard), buy a house plant or even seeds to plant your own love flowers together.

  10. Spread the love and donate to a cause or charity organisation

Valentine's Day is about celebrating love, and whether that is love for a partner, friend or family member, there are many ways to do this sustainably, ethically and with love for the earth.
