A Sustainability Consultant’s Christmas Wishlist

Hi, Sophie here. I’m the founder and CEO of A Sustainable Closet. I’m still honoured and happy to be able to write articles for this platform that started as a simple blog about my interest in sustainable fashion and now has become a destination with thousands of visitors on a monthly basis. I want it to be able to assist all of you wherever you are on your sustainable closet journey.

But these kinds of posts are among my favourites. Because creativity, wishlists and dreams are so much more fun than just talking about the problems. I don’t think we need to stop with Christmas gifts (I love gifts) in order to be more sustainable but we can be more mindful by start asking what people actually want and if they want something. Remember just because you and I love gifts, not everybody does.

These things are on my list for 2022! Merry Christmas!

Sellpy giftcard

When January comes and all the fun activities and celebrations are over, I want to scroll online to update my closet for 2023. Of course it’s all second hand so why not helping me out with a giftcard from Sellpy?

Sewing Machine

It feels like if you are an advocate, entrepreneur and consultant in sustainable fashion it almost feels like your duty to be able to mend and sew your own clothes. Maybe not a whole closet, but at least to alter that dress you otherwise would have bought second hand. That us my dream, to be able to buy more things on second hand I find beautiful and then alter them to my own body type.

Anything from Patagonia

I love nature, I love travelling, I love camping and I love hiking. I could spend hours in a forest and never get bored. My closet has almost all the essential items, but since my outdoor life is growing so is the need for new items (so if one fleece gets dirty one day at least I have one extra). I’m a big fan of everything Patagonia stands for and do. Any item from this brand will forever be loved and used and remain in my closet until I die.

Remake clothes from favorite brands

Did you read our blog post about Remake brands taking over social media? Well that came from me. I absoltuly love remake brands. They are creative, fun and colorful and I think a few remake items really updates your style and closet in a perfect way. Please, Freya Simonne, Remake or Textile Storie. There are many I love Santa.

Vegan shoes and bags

Even though I have managed to find a few second-hand shoes and bags on second hand I find it harder and harder and I don’t really use the ones I bought 10 years ago. I think it has to do with me becoming more and more of a vegan, where I don’t want to wear leather anymore, even if it is second-hand. Don’t worry, I’m not going to exchange everything over one night. But I think my closet will look different in 10 years compared to today. I’m dreaming of brands such as Hvisk and Matt&Nat. Greenlaces is one of my favourite destinations otherwise you can check out our vegan shoe guide.

Ethical jewellery

I’m a jewellery girl. I love jewellery that is vintaged or made of recycled gold or lab-grown diamonds. There are a few marketplaces and platform that collaborates with small-scale ethical artisans in countries such as Mexico, Kenya and Colombia. If I buy something new, I want it to come from these artists. I want my money to support female-led businesses empowering women in other countries. Moi Namaste and White Label Project are two good destinations.

Candles

I can never get enough of them. I love when it smells good. I use them morning and evenings, every single day. But of course, I want them to be environmentally friendly and cruelty free. I don’t mind if a statement is written on them either. It’s good if my guests know who’s the boss of the house.

I hope you have made your Christmas list sustainable too. You can also check out our Good Christmas Gift Guide where no newly produced items are listed! 100% sustainable and circular!
