Sustainable Makeup - A Must
There’s a strong bond going on between fashion and makeup. Just how we express ourselves through the items we wear, we also tell a story with our makeup. Some people use makeup daily while some not at all and are totally against it, and that’s okay! If you’re a makeup user, have you ever thought about what your makeup contains? Cosmetics often contain several different chemicals and can be downright harmful for both you and our planet. Just like how we care about what we put on our bodies, textile wise, we should also be careful about what we smudge into our skins and faces!
Tips from the experts:
Avoid products that contain parabens, silicone, synthetic preservatives and perfumes, phthalates, mineral oil, aluminum and propylene glycol.
Choose products with natural ingredients over synthetic ones. Don’t blindly trust products that market themselves as ecological, do some research about the brand and what they actually stand for. Just like there is greenwashing in the fashion industry, so it is in the beauty sector too.
Choose products from brands that you feel comfortable using. Checking the list of ingredients every time you buy new makeup is difficult, it’s easier to become confident with a selected range of brands.
It’s more than what’s on the inside that counts. Go for products with packaging in renewable materials over packaging in plastic. If your favorite product has plastic packaging, take your responsibility and always recycle it.
Avoid products and brands that contain micro plastics! These are flushed out into waterways and cause damage to our seas and its inhabitants.
